Happy 4th on the 5th!

Understandably, the loss of The Colonies isn't very big with the Brits. So in honor of US independence, The Boy and I decided to sally forth into the land of our forefathers and took a trip to the exotic West End of London - more specifically, Soho. A land of theaters and museums, bookstores, cafes, and pubs, our destination was the most American thing we could think of - The Texas Embassy Cantina for some Tex-Mex, a cuisine near and dear to The Boy's heart as he went to school at A&M. Once upon a time, when Texas was known as The Republic of Texas, it had an embassy here in London. The restaurant does not occupy that same space. It does, however, share the same block with the Canadian embassy just off of Trafalgar Square. Here are some pics from our day.

Unbeknownst to us when we set out, it was Pride London '08 and the theme was Fairytales, Myths, and Legends. Some people really got into it.

There were sidewalk drawings, just like in Mary Poppins!
Leicester Square is the heart of Movieland UK and hosts many a movie premier. There is a bronze statue of Charlie Chaplin in the little park...
... and another of The Bard...
...who had a little pigeon friend nestled in the crook of his arm.
We passed the theater where SPAMALOT is playing and made a vow to go and see it.
Maybe we'll go for a pint at this amazing pub across the street after the show.
Trafalgar Square at last!
Interestingly, on rounding the corner, we found yet another statue - this one of our first president. Very fitting, I would say.
And finally, our dinner destination! The Boy was very excited.
We took a walk by The Thames on the way home. Right now they have a giant ferris wheel up at the Royal Naval College. They're calling it the Greenwich Observation Wheel, and while it's smaller than its big brother, The London Eye, I've heard that it offers equally spectacular views. At the very least, it looks amazing at night.
